Junior Girls Football
On Thursday October 14th the Dunmore girls played the Kiltimagh girls in the Junior Girls division. The weather was noticeably clear for the girls today with no rain and no sun in their eyes.
We started at 11 o clock sharp, and Dunmore started with an mighty goal from Rebecca Noone. Kiltimagh responded with a point from Louise Cassidy. Melissa Collins, Dunmore’s goalkeeper, then saved two attempts at a goal, but Sarah Carrey was able to score a point for Kiltimagh. Grace Dooley then tried to score for Dunmore, but she was denied the chance by Kiltimagh’s goalkeeper Naoise Heffernan. Niamh Mooney then scored another point for Kiltimagh. Sarah Carrey then scored another point for Kiltimagh. Alicia Costello then got the ball all the way to the other side of the pitch for Katie Slattery to score a point, but then Ellie Maguire scored a goal for Kiltimagh. Rebecca Noone then missed a free for Dunmore which led to a strong counterattack from Kiltimagh but Emma Concannon and Emma Heneghan kept them at bay for now. Emily Rowley then scored a goal for Kiltimagh just before the referee called for a water break. Play resumed at 11:20 and Katie Slattery went straight for a goal for Dunmore but was denied by Naoise Heffernan in a spectacular save, but Amy Deane scored a point to redeem her efforts. Rebecca Noone then missed a point for Dunmore but so did Sarah Carrey for Kiltimagh. Niamh Mooney then went for a goal but was denied the chance by Melissa Collins in a beautiful save. Niamh Mooney was going for a goal for Kiltimagh but she was stopped in her tracks by Megan Healy and Chloe Diskin. Unfortunately, Sarah Carrey and Louise Cassidy both scored a point for Kiltimagh. Rebecca Noone then scored a point for Dunmore and after a free, scored another. Chloe then stopped a goal attempt and Isabelle Murray, and Katie Slattery brought the ball up the pitch, but Isabelle unfortunately missed in the end. Niamh Mooney then scored a goal for Kiltimagh. Rebecca Noone scored a point for Dunmore just before the referee called for half time. Play resumed at 11:43 and Rebecca Noone and Grace Dooley added two more points to Dunmore’s tally. Sarah Carrey then scored a point for Kiltimagh but Isabelle Murray also scored a point for Dunmore. Rebecca Noone missed a point but a few moments later redeemed herself by scoring a point along with Isabelle Murry and Grace Dooley. Kiltimagh had just enough time to miss a penalty before the last water break. Play resumed at 12:02 and Kiltimagh opened strong with Sarah Carrey scoring a goal and Niamh Mooney scoring a point. Rebecca Noone then retaliated by scoring not one but two points for Dunmore. Kiltimagh was then denied a few goals by Emma Heneghan, Amy O’Connor and Megan Healy and their excellent defending, but Sarah Carrey did manage to score a goal for Kiltimagh. Grace Dooley then scored two points and Katie Slattery also scored a point. Louise Cassidy had just enough time to score a point before the game was over. Sadly, the Dunmore girls lost by just 14 points. The girls played fabulously throughout the game and never gave up until the final whistle. This game was action packed and full of marvelous football.
